Online Summer Book Club!

This summer, Class 4-324 will host a Online Book Club on our blog!!!

We'll choose books together that we want to read, and we'll read certain chapters in those books each week. Katie will post questions we can think about/blog about and some fun activities for us each week that relate to the book! We'll get to continue the fabulous conversations we've been having about books all year.

In order to make this happen, we need to choose books that kids are interested in reading for the book club.  Post all your suggestions for books we could read below! After we choose books, we'll order copies for all the kids who are interested in participating. If you have ideas about how to make the book club even more exciting, post those here too!

The Swallows Have Arrived!

I just came across Kathryn Fitzmaurice's blog. She is the author of The Year the Swallows Came Early, the book we just finished reading together. We loved hearing what happened to Frankie and Groovy. It was our pleasure to experience their growth and watch them change.

Kathryn Fitzmaurice just reported on her blog that the swallows arrived in San Juan Capistrano on March 19th! You can read her article about it here.

As Frankie says, "They always come back. Without you having to ask them." What do you think Frankie means when he says that? Why would the fact that the swallows always come back matter to Frankie?

Books to Costa Rica!

Here is a picture of the school we donated books to in Costa Rica. Last week, Yana stopped by our classroom to bring us thank-you notes from the students and to share stories from her travels. Of particular interest was the fact that there was no garbage service in the town, only recycling. That meant that residents had to be creative about what they did with their waste!

If you missed it, here's our earlier entry about the books we donated!

Reading Partnership Celebration!

Today, we presented our award-show style speeches to thank our partners for all the support they have given us during our November Reading Partnership Unit! We learned so many things from working with our partners over the past month! Here are a few of our thank-you videos.

Are you and your partner planning to continue reading together? What is your plan for continuing your partnership?
