We synthesized all of our learning about the Iroquois by considering what we know about the values, beliefs and traditions of the Iroquois. We came up with so many ideas, both from our whole class lessons and from the books we've been exploring with our partners. Thank you Jane, Ellis and Leela for designing these beautiful charts! Click on any of the pictures to see the charts enlarged.
Historians, do you have any thoughts about the values, beliefs and traditions of the Iroquois that you haven't shared yet? Post them here!
I love all the posters!

As a children's literature professor, I have read many Native American fairy tales and folk tales. All of the Values, Beliefs and traditions appear in them. One thing I would add is that they do not consider a person's appearance to be as valuable as their inner spirit, their character. It is how you are on the inside that matters, not what you look like.
ReplyDeleteA great story that shows that is this Native Canadian version of the Cinderella story called "The Hidden One" http://www.aaronshep.com/stories/046.html. It is a great twist on a tale we know so well!
I like the posters thank you for putting them on the blog

Dear Tali,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. We've been collecting values, beliefs and traditions from across our readings, and we'll be using them to inspire the skits we produce next week.
I will be sure to share your ideas with the class, and I appreciate you passing the Native Canadian Cinderella story along. I had not read "The Hidden One" before.
